Hard On Things Lyrics:

I’m hard on my body
I’m hard on my bones
I’m hard on every tool I own
hard of hearing I’m hard of taste
gettin’ all my teeth replaced
I’m hard on every tool I use
I strip the drivers and the screws
I’m hard on my soles
hard on my heels
hard on tires I’m hard on wheels
hard on clutches hard on brakes
I’m hardest on my own mistakes
my suspension needs new springs
‘cause I’m hard on things

yeah I’m hard on things
mmm mmm mmm mmmmm
I’m hard on things
mmm mmm mmm mmmmm

I’m hard on boots hard on gloves
I’m hard on all the ones I love
I’m hard on hearts I’m hard on flings
I’m hardest on the sweetest things
I’ve worn out two gold wedding rings
‘cause I’m hard on things
I may be right and I might be wrong
it’s hard to put that in a song
it’s hard to make this Gibson sing
whenever I try I break the strings
‘cause I’m hard on things

yeah I’m hard on things
mmm mmm mmm mmmmm
I’m hard on everything
mmm mmm mmm mmmmm

I’m hard on my friends ‘cause it’s hard to care
for someone you love who’s hardly there
I’m hard on my wallet I’m hard for cash
I go hard until I crash
I’m hard on my liver and it’s hard on my head
it’s hard to sleep when I lie in bed
with the nightmares the morning brings
I’m hard on things

I’m hard on things
mmm mmm mmm mmmmm
I’m hard on things
mmm mmm mmm mmmmm
it ain’t easy when you’re hard on things
mmm mmm mmm mmmmm
I’m hard on things
mmm mmm mmm mmmmm

Rob Vaarmeyer and I wrote this song together in August, 2010, on the porch of 39 Oxford St. in Toronto’s Kensington Market. Clouds of smoke and summertime chatter drifting over from the porch next door, where these hip hop kids were hangin’ out. One of ‘em in particular was digging what we were doing: “That’s poetry, man!” he’d exclaim from time to time. Felt like we were on to something good. We stayed on that porch till long after the sun went down and finished five songs (another we finished that day, “Take Me to the Mountain,” is also on Hobo Jungle Fever Dreams). Find the album, for mail order or digital download, at www.corinraymond.com.

Note: I do “Hard on Things” in F#m (I’m capoed on the 2nd fret, using an Em shape). F#m is the i. The actual chords: F#m, E, A. The shapes I’m using with my 2nd fret capo: Em, D, G. The numbers: i, VII, III.

This video features: M.C. Hansen on lead guitar, Jacob Chano on snare/snare case, Treasa Levasseur on vocals, and Brian Kobayakawa on upright bass.
